“That it wasn’t worth going. That it was already too late. Mascara, eyeliner, these printed words. Everything is written in black, everything is written with fire.”
This vase is part of Noche, a series of thing-drawings that function as obsessive acts of imaginary probing: familiar forms that darken as they are drawn. In this drawing, the rule is simple: to draw flowers and vegetal forms without a reference, as an exercise in excavating the memory held by the body of what a flower, a stem, a leaf, or a branch is; of what these structures look like and how to reproduce them through drawing and paper. A second rule: no plant typology may be repeated. Each one must be different.
